Welcome to Observatory Serena La Serena, Chile
Chile
Chile is located at the pacific coast in South America.
It is like an island on a continent, due to its natural borders.
The west side of Chile touches the pacific ocean, the east side the
high mountain range the Andes. In the south of Chile youŽll encounter
huge areas of icy masses and to the north the opposite, the
Atacama desert, the driest desert of the world.
Chile has a wide variety of landscapes starting from the desert in the north
and getting greener towards the south. There are many plantages of
different things like grapes, papayas, avocados, oranges and many
other things.
Being at the coast there is fresh fish every day and with a reasonable
price. But the so called "La Feria" offer much more than just fish.
There is fresh fruids, handcraft and stuff for everydays life.
Chile has around 17.000.000 people, out of which 6.000.000 are living in Santiago de Chile, the capital city of Chile. Links - Chile
La Serena
Home
La Serena is a small town with about 150.000 inhabitants.
It lies at the pacific coast in the northern part of Chile and was declared
as a touristic city.
After Santiago de Chile, La Serena is the oldest city of Chile. For that reason, many of its buildings are protected.
La Serena borders the Atacama desert, the driest desert of the world. It is for that
reason that many observatories have been built there and are still being built.
Although La Serena is located in a semi-desert, the city itself is kept very green with a lot of plazas and squares.
Due to the dry atmosphere the blue of the sky appears as a very intense
blue one that is unique. The sunsets at this region are just as colorful.
Coming from the city center towards the sea, youŽll find the famous light
house of La Serena "El faro" There is also a little restaurant in the
light house and other small stores in the environment.
La Serena has a very good infrastructure with a wide variety of shops.
The opening times are usually from 10 AM and to 10 PM.
